Trekkie Dad's Proflex 4000

Right now I don't have a picture of the actual bike, but here is one I found that looks just like it. It's a 1998 K2 Proflex 4000 that I bought from the Mountain Pedler bike shop in Angels Camp, California. The shop owner had picked up a bunch of these bikes at a bargain price from a couple of shops that went out of business and was passing the savings on to his customers. It was nearly HALF OFF! I wasn't planning to get a new bike so soon, but I couldn't pass up such a great deal on a RED bike.

It's a pretty uncomplicated design that makes it a good all-around trail bike. It's a good climber and it sails downhill. I find it easy to control and it sticks to the trail like glue. The front suspension is a Noleen Crosslink fork (3" of travel) with a Smart Shock with computerized compression damping. At the rear is a carbon fiber swingarm and NR5 shock delivering 4" of travel. The components are a mix of Shimano LX and XT. Pedals are K2 MagC (Magnesium with cromoly spindles). Rims are Sun Sub-IV. I've replaced the Panaracer Duster tires with the Michelins from my Trek. It's advertised as weighing in at 27.5 lbs., but my bathroom scale read 29.5 including the slime tubes and seat bag.
